I'm new to this part of T-Net and I'm trying to expand my detecting knowledge. What were the knots used for? I assume they are just packing for shipping a supply of thimbles but I'm not sure.
    Thanks

Old post but as you've not recieved an answer heres the scoop. Thimbles were turned into tinklers and worn on clothing by piercing them. I've managed a couple out west. cheers
