Went to a cornfield that was just picked....tough hunting!!!
There is a small Fur Trade era Indian camp in this field. Not many targets left as we have even dug the nails!
But.....got lucky today & dug this trade cross. They are very thin & fragile cast brass, so are very hard to find un-broken. Also usually missing most of the stones.
Also got a musket ball that an Indian had hammered down.
Slim pickins', but it was a beautiful day!!

Great find . Were items like this made by the documented silversmiths of the time, or were they from another source? I'm interested to learn if anyone has ever found something other than silver with one of the known silversmiths marks.

Scratcher, To my knowledge they were not made by the silversmiths. I'm guessing the Fur Trade companys contracted with outside manufacturers to supply them.
The only silversmith marked items I have seen were silver or "German Silver".
Anyone else know of any?
