    Any thoughts on this piece?

I was sorting thru some of last year's recoveries that
were made in Northern Illinois and I've always wondered
about what this lead piece might be. It appears to have
been "worked" with a knife at some point in time.

    As I recall, I found maybe 3 or 4 of these in a 20-foot
area while hunting the wooded areas near a river.
During an earlier hunt, I also recovered a Woodland/Historic
period stone celt and a .50 caliber(?) musket ball from
the same general area. . . if that's of any help in putting
    this piece in perspective.

    Thanks for any thoughts

Being lead, I would assume that this is a net weight for fishing. I have several of those from fur trade sites. They wouldn't use lead to make a hair pipe as it would be too heavy.
    Fishing weight is my guess.

I too have found these on Fur Trade camp sites.. and also assumed them to be either fishing line or net weights.
    Thanks for any thoughts

Pretty sure Dave's correct. Fishing weights. To attach to the line, just crimp.
