Hi all,

was looking around for a good gps receiver to pair with my Nokia E61 and a thread on http://www.boards.ie referred me to http://www.buygpsnow.com

Long story short, saw and downloaded a nice piece of free software called http://www.amazegps.com It looks like it might be ad-supported bu the mapping is free forever.

The best part is that it has satellite images on your phone and also can do hybrid with the map feature. Google maps has satellite too but nothing like what I've just seen on my screen just now. Anyway, loads more testing but just in case it wasn't mentioned here yet........

After a lot of searching, thinking of pairing up a Holux M1200, although I do have an offer of a half-price Nokia LD-4W. I hear the 3W was better though.

??? In what sense? Don't follow you at all. Just because the revenue model's a little different to the usual doesn't mean its malware or spyware. That's a rather simplistic view, no offence meant. It's merely a different way of them making money from it. The ads could be locally served ads that are relevant to your search or POIs. That's like Google mobile or google ads. Hardly spyware or malware any more than they are.

By the way, the correct url is http://www.buygpsnow.com and they link to amaze gps. That's how I found it.

I agree with EDDE, always avoid software like that, and people wonder why their computer's get screwed up, Keep in mind, you install 1 piece of software like that and you may be fine, but after installing 20 free software programs that are all trying to serve ads, and your computer comes to a slow crawl and people complain about it being Windows.
