Don't know if you read my post ( a couple down), my Magellan Platinum (monochrome)was and is much easier to read in the daylight, than the Oregon 300 (color). Some believe, it's because of the touch screen. Whatever; if at all possible, check it out in the environment you'll be using it in, before buying.

Thanks Shep. Yes I had read your post and have been looking at the etrex but will give the Magellan a look as well. I just want to make sure I can see it well outdoors.

After having a color unit, it would be hard to go back to one of the non-color units I've retired.
