GPS Questions

My husband and I just got back from a mini vacation in N.E. Alabama. Mr.Pepper's
kin folk had a GPS in their car. Now we would like to have one. They paid $800 for their gps and I am NOT going to pay that much. (I could buy a new MD for that price! )

We only want one that fits in the car. One we can punch in directions to lead us to our traveling destination and back home without getting lost. Or having to pull out a road map 50 times during the trip.

We want one for traveling inside a car for trips on the road. If any of you can help me out I would sure appreciate it. I like to know what I am talking about when I go shopping. If you know a bit about an item the salesperson usually doesn't try and bulls*it around with me.

My wife has the Garmin Nuvi 350 and my neice has the Nuvi 260. They both work great and speak the name of the street that it wants you to turn onto. The 350 as some extra stuff like audio book reader and MP3 player that we never use anyway so I think the 260 is a better GPS for just navigation because it's screen is a little brighter and it's cheaper. Both are less tha $250 at Amazon.com. If speaking the name of the street isn't important to you and you're OK with it just saying "Turn left ahead" etc, then there are some cheaper models without the speech synthesizer.

Compuplus.com has the Nuvi 260 for $219 + $15 shipping.

Pepper, If you have a lap top, go to Wally World and get Streets and trips program with the GPS plug in for about 105 dollars. You can see where you've been and where you are going. It will also give you directions. If you put the address in
it will route you. Plug it in the computer and stick it on the windshield. Gnewt

I ended up taking the GPS BACK and traded it for a TomTom. The TomTom is much easier to use and I was glad to pay a few extra bucks to get rid of that first GPS I bought!
