Re: Final Clue! Find Large Cent, 2 Cent Piece, V Nickel and Mercury Dime

I found the coins!! I was digging them up as the snow started this morning. It was fun! Thanks Bergie! They are pretty cool. The 1845 large cent and 1864 two cent piece are my oldest coins yet. Last fall I found an 1895 IH and a 1909 wheat in the corn field. Of course it took me a total of 28 hrs of swinging to find them. I guess I need to try different fields.

    Thanks again Bergie,

    Dave

Dave -- great work -- I was actually driving by at the time you were out there, just amazing timing...I was late to something for one of my kids, so I couldn't stop, but saw you on the mound. Where do you live?

Too bad you couldn't stop. I Live in Rosendale and work in Kingston. I've had my detector for years but never used it much, maybe once a year. I found this forum and then ran into Goldfever working a field. It got me inspired to put in more time. So far I haven't found a lot, mostly clad, and broken farm equipment. This was my best day. I've been looking for places to hunt. It seems like there are enough spots worth a look. I'm not very comfortable asking for permission yet. So I still have some work to do.

Re: Final Clue! Find Large Cent, 2 Cent Piece, V Nickel and Mercury Dime

I used to live just around the corner from you in Stone Ridge, graduated rondout in 88, theres so many places out that way to hunt, and the area is much older than the area where i am now. I know of alot of old colonial cellar holes and foundations from the 1600s out there and cant wait till i can take a nice vacation to hunt out there. too bad Ive only been doing this for 4-5 years. my last year there was in 2002 and spent that year walking the corn fields for arrowheads along Rt 209
