An estate sale find--1887 Autograph Album!

I found a really neat old autograph album from 1887-88 for $5.00 at an estate sale over the weekend.
The girl it belonged to was Bertha McCracken.
It is full of poems and sayings from that era. Some of the towns mentioned are: Clarks Mills, Pa., Oakdale, Penna., Cranberry, Pa., Franklin, Pa., Victory(Pa.?), Erie Co., Pa., and Flinchbaugh School. Some of her family and friends: Wade McCracken(her brother), Clara(her sister), Sarah Brandon, Janus Stright, Alice Shiner, Mabel Fink, Bertha Leopold, Zelda Burford, Lizzie Barber, Tillie Hughes, Rena Shiner, Jennie Jones, C.V Ross(cousin), Sherman Burford, Alice M. Small, Sadie Ross, Belle Boyle, & John Bailey(pastor).
One of the peoms reads:
Sailing down the stream of life,
In your little bark canoe,
May you have a pleasant trip,
With just room enough for two.
The handwritting is beautiful in this book!

Thanks lazyaussie! I checked on ebay and it looks like people are selling these for genealogy purposes.
It is so much fun to read old handwritten books like this. Its like a window into the "Victorian" era.

That is funny.....

Not one person wrote anything about privies full of empty narcotic based "cure" bottles........

.It might have been a little more interesting if they did, huh, plehbah?? Just mindless poetry and flowery praise in this book, but still fun to read!
Here's another poem in this book:
"May happiness be thy lot and
peace thy steps attend,
Accept this tribute of respect
from one who is thy friend.
