Anyone Know about watercolor Paintings? with appraisal

I picked this painting up at yardsale yesterday... I am not sure if it is a print or a original... I am leaning towards original... I know it is hard to see this,but around the people an the bushes the artist sketched them before painting them an the sketches are still there.. anyone knows anything please post a reply... What I know is Juan Menchaca was born 1910 in Fort Worth Texas an moved to Denver some point in his life.. He is listed on the artist data base so it is a known artist..

I don't know much, but what I do know is that watercolor is a very hard medium with which to work. I googled him and someone has one of his oil paintings of some Bison up for sale for $2,400.00

Look at it thru 10x magnifaction. If you can see pixels, its a print.

I looked at it with a 20 x an don't think I seen pixels... but I am not sure what they look like so that isn't much help for me.. I didn't see lil dots.. I used alot of zoom with Macro to try an minic the loupe effect with the pics pos6ted on here.. Does anyone see any pixels??

I am a lil confused I got my email back from hertiage auction appraisal can someone tell me what it is saying? I know it says that they don't want to sell it for me cause it doesn't meet there 5000.00 value min. but does it say anywhere if my painting is a orginal or print??

I doubt that they looked past a simple evaluation. They may have Googled to artist or given it a closer inspection. Either way, once they realized it's approximate value, they moved on to the next piece. Not an appraisal, but an evaluation.

Lithographic printing is accomplished by utilizing a dot pattern on each of four color plates printed one atop the other. These four colors - magenta, yellow, cyan and black, combine to provide a full spectrum of color. Using a loupe, look closely at your artwork. If you see a dot pattern, it is a lithograph.

I can't tell from what I am seeing it looks like the "dots" I am seeing is from the paper they used... cause the they should look I seen online isn't what I am seeing...

Best way to get a hold of this is by example - take a newspaper with a color photo and look it at under 20X magnificaton - then try a magazine page, a print and a cereal box. You will clearly see the dots. Then use a marker, tea bag, water color paint etc to stain a piece of paper. Now look at that under 20X magnification - no dots.

The paper may very well be textured to imitate canvas - or it may be a an actual canvas. Texture either way - don't confuse that with the printing process dots.

Hey Creeper
I just wanted to add that I have bought some so called watercolors in the past that I thought were real but turned out to be lithographs. The so called paintings I bought looked so good and I even seen pencil marks and had no pixels or dots under 20x mag but they were prints.
I think the best way to see if your is real is to take it out of the frame and to look at what kind of paper was used and to see if there is any writing on the back of the painting.

I think you probably will have to have someone take a look at it in person. I don't think you can really tell from an online picture, as it is only as good as the picture you take of it.

We only have original watercolor painting - we know its absolutely real, because Roy's greatgrandmother painted it - the only watercolor she ever did (family heirloom). I can see the medium underneath the watercolor, but it is done in pastels, so, I don't know if it is because it is so old, because the pastels are ---- well, pastels - or if (and I have had someone tell me this, but I'm not sure), some watercolors always soak a bit into the canvas
they are painted on.
