Norwegian Spoons--Used for ? and who is maker? Silver?
Garage sale find from last weekend.......Can anyone help me figure out the maker on the little spoons? and are they silver? And what were such little spoons used for? Are they dessert spoons? I think they are Norwegian----some of the words that I can read on the lid of the box "Alesund" "Telefon 1946" "Gullsmed".

Looks like the first symbol is actually some letters--Maybe NM and the second symbol looks like a chalice or stemmed goblet .

They are silver. .830 is an old standard for silver purity in Norway. The "NM" (Norsk Monster) is a generic mark and roughly translates as a design copyright."J S Refsnæs AS" is the name of the jeweler/goldsmith, "Gullsmed" translates to goldsmith."Telefon 1946" is an old telephone number, as telefon translates to telephone. Right on! Thank you diggummup!!!! I was hoping they would be silver and needed to know for sure before listing them on ebay. These were in one of those boxes that me and my sister got at that garage sale last week(the $2 boxes from my other post).

Appreciate your help as well---I didn't know where to start looking for silver marks because there are so many.

Make sure you list them internationally (extra .10). I have found that certain European made objects do better in the area where they originated from. I just sold a set of 6 Danish Holmegaard Per Lütken Balloon Midi-white wine glasses. I listed them 3 times in the U.S. only, because together they weigh over 7 pounds and the cost for shipping overseas is more than the price of them. Well guess what? I listed them internationally and they sold, first week to a U.K buyer. Shipping alone is $58.50 but they are an obscure set of glasses and Americans don't know what they are and what they are worth because of that. You are correct, they are demitasse spoons based on the size of them.

I've never had a problem with them paying. I worry more about whether or not they will receive it or not. So far so good.
