Found a neat axe head at a garage sale

I found this axe/hatchet/tomahawk at a garage sale last week. I looked this brand up on ebay and they seem to be selling really good. Why is that? What is so special about this brand of axe? Its a "Genuine Norlund" axe. And also says on the other side of the axe "Buck 1973". I listed it on ebay and have 23 watchers and 83 views as of right now. Here's the listing: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...STRK:MESELX:IT
Would the "1973" be the year it was made?
Thanks for looking and any info...

    good find.

Maybe everyone thinks it's a gold bar with one end smashed.
I hope you do well with the sale.

Maybe so.....We'll see what it brings, this may be a 'sleeper' item . Its not in the best condition---I put a little WD-40 on it to make it shine(hope that won't hurt it?).
    Thanks Kentucky Kache .

Nice find. I think the "BUCK 1973" was added by a former owner. Hope it sells well. The blade looks to be in good shape, that's the main thing, and a little WD-40 won't hurt anything.

Thanks diggummup....I couldn't find any more with the "Buck 1973" on them. I googled the Norlund name and it looks like maybe this axe was made in the 1960's. I think that maybe its a German brand of axe(?).

Not German- Norlund axes were made by Mann Edge Tool Company of Lewistown, PA.- Check this out-

Similar ones have sold between $40-60 recently on Fleabay.

Take off one of your watch numbers, I am watching to see how well you do. Looks like you are off to a good start. Just thinking could it have been made by the maker of Buck knives?

Yes, I kinda wondered if it was somehow connected to the Buck knife makers, too, but in that link diggummup provided, it didn't mention Buck knives. Maybe the Buck company bought some of the Norlund axes and added their logo .

That's okay, Ursus....I've done the same thing.
I'll tell you all how much I gave for this axe after the auction ends tomorrow.

I'd say those recent "completed sales" listings of $40-60 were right on target!
