Looks like you've been cheated. To make sure that no one else falls for this scam, Box it up and send it to me. I will make sure that it never appears in a garage sale again.

can't be no older then 1897 if the hallmarks arenot repro'd (which I doubt they are) W D =War Department acceptance mark (discontinued in 1895, although it's been reported on examples dated 1897 as well) 10/87 more likely is oct 1887
That is the best I can come up with , you can post it in the WHAT IS IT forum an probly get alot more help in there

What you have (I believe) is a model 1876 Martini-Henry socket bayonet. The markings are as follows from top to bottom, the Broad Arrow ( British War Department stamp), the "unique" inspectors stamp (crown over E and what looks like a 51?), the date stamp of 10/87 (Oct. 1887), and the issue number. They were used during the Zulu wars. Nice find for $10 for sure, especially with the scabbard.

Great find. I have a Martini Henry and also an MH carbine but don't have bayonets for either. You did great if it's original and I think it appears to be.
