Pottery vase or art thingy??

I picked this up this morning at a local flea martket for $2 and I'm not quite sure what I've got. It appears to be pottery or stoneware, and I think it's a vase, but I'm not sure it it. It also has an artists mark on the back. Any ideas on what I've got or how to decribe it on ebay? It measures 6" x 6". Thanks in advance!

I'm not familiar with that mark. I almost mistook it for a dollar sign but I think it's an H over an S set of initials. I would think it is what is termed "studio art," made by an unknown maker in a pottery class or home studio somewhere. A little strange to have signed the piece on the back too and so large, more evidence that popints in that direction. JMHO.
