    Fake and Folly

This weekend, we went out only on the morning of Saturday, Jan. 14.
I found a medal, and metals. I paid a total of $13.00 for what you see.

The ring isn't real...had it tested today...
It was too tarnished to reflect the 18kt marking inside/
I polished it with some Lowe's "Clearance Priced Polishing Rouge" and on a drillpress mandrel-mounted polishing wheel I'd bought from one of last year's garage sales.... ;>)

Had the Hearts tested, also, to see. They are 10kt gold.

The Bronze medal at the bottom an actual "Air Medal", less it's blue-colored ribbon Google Data says there are just over 700 of these issued and accounted for since WWII .

All the items on the left of the red background pic are stamped Sterling. The olive fork was a gift from a seller that knew me and where the fork came from, so I'm not selling it and it's not included in the weight.

Hope this coming weekend is another one full of surprises.....

Nice finds. Was curious if the air medal has a name on the back? Also the bracelet looks like what air crew would were back in the ww2 era. Is there a name or number on it? I collect medals and wings, part of the fun is finding the history of the aircrew member. Air medals were pretty common for anyone with alot of flying time in a combat zone. Many times you'll see the ribbon with a few copper(1) or maybe a silver(5) oak leaf which show that they received multiple air medals.

I had the "18kt" ring tested, yesterday... My gut feeling was right, it is a fake... "Not Gold".

The back of I.D. bracelet only has "Anson" and under it is stamped "Sterling".

The medal is blank on the back side. Is that a sign it may be a WWII medal?

For the $13 spent, the up side is that the two pendants tested as 10kt. with one tested as "green" gold (?); worth about $60.00 plus the Sterling pieces' total worth is about $65.00. Any idea what the bronze Air Medal is worth in its present condition?

A side note, to you and other forum readers, is that the "We buy gold" sign outside of the loan business that I used to check these, along with some other 10kt (4.9g) and 12kt (4.3g) jewelry pieces, offered a total of $94.00 on what an HONEST refiner company would pay $220.00 for... I wonder how that offer stacks up against what other members are seeing?
