not all that's gold glitters...
So Saturday was, for all intents and purposes, the opening day of "yard sale season" in my neck of the woods.
Headed out by 7am for 2 CL leads, both a decent drive from my normal haunts. Stopped at the first one. Sure enough I had been there last season but he is a picker so his stuff was plentiful and ever changing. His prices are high but with minimal effort he drops them to reasonable levels. Bought a pile of junk including some Atari games, some coin sets, and an old school XBOX. On the way out I notice a radar detector sitting on a table. Then, I notice it is an Escort 8500... How much? $2. SOLD!
Head over to the next sale. I get there and this woman has set up a little studio/thrift store in her garage. Junk and misleading ad. That one will end up on my "list" of addresses to avoid! Head back home the long way hoping to spot some signs. Sure enough, I see a sign and follow it down a remote road. 2 sales next to one another and lots of stuff. First sale I start browsing the box of LPs. Now the titles were almost all good but it looked like they had been in a flood and most of the albums were destroyed. The dude then starts bringing out box after box of LPs. I picked out 9 that were undamaged. This was out of 350 LPs. Paid my money ($10) and left after browsing the 2nd sale but finding common household chaff.
Ended up with 2 HUGE scores on opening day:
-Velvet Underground 1st album, 1st pressing (on a similar level to the beatles butcher cover)
-Escort 8500 X50 radar detector (look this one up on amazon!)
