I am a Friday/Saturday Garage Sail Hunter. I rarely ever go on Sundays, however, on the way home from running a few errands I spotted 2 Garage Sales within a block of each other, so I hit them both.

At the first sale I immediately spotted a vintage Boy Scott, knife, fork & Spoon set, on a table marked, everything .50 cents each. I have since checked it out and it's vintage 1950's with a value in the $35.00 / $50.00 range. Home run number one!

At the 2nd sale I was looking hard because it was one of those sales with hundreds of small items in boxes, etc. After a 10 or 15 minutes, in a box marked .25 each, I found a "Marsch Kompass", which is a compass made in Finland before WWII. I have since checked it out and I have learned that it is the compass carried by German Soldiers in WWII and has a value north of $100.00 depending on condition. Home run number 2!

Nice picks, but a firm single and a double. Out here, home runs are $400 or more (when purchased for under $25). I've had a few homers, but they are few and far between.

Rankings
Less then $10, no matter what you pay, is a walk
$100 or less is a single
$200 or less is a Double
$300 or less is a triple
$400 or more is a Home Run
$1000 or more is a Grand Slam.

Great finds JohnnyFlake,

Home runs in my book and as far as I'm concerned.
Keep up the good work and keep posting.

WOW!

I had no idea that there were unofficial guidelines!!!

None the less, they felt like home runs to me!

Possible 1000x the purchase price? Home run!

This weekend I was promised a beautiful 125 year old safe. There was a sign that said "free to a good home." I pick it up on Sunday. With a price of free, any sale will bring infinite percent profit. I'll post a pic as soon as I can.

I think you did great. Just wondered, shouldn't your hits be pro rated? 25 bucks makes a home run at 400 16 times the money. Seems a MAYBE 150 bucks is 200 times the money (investment). Yea, I'd give ya a couple of inside the parker's.

Percent increase can be VERY misleading. I once bought 3 little Wheaton Glass reproduction medicine bottles for $0.25 or, roughly, 8 cents each. I sold one of them for $10.00. That is a whopping 12,400% increase in value! But I only made a little less than $10 which is not nearly so impressive.

Be that as it may, I like your finds (and your likely profits), JohnnyFlake, especially the compass - very cool.

Thanks for the comments guys!

It's got me thinking now, maybe I need to get out, more often, on Sundays now!

My system is a little more complicated. Basically it factors in $ per hour. Price paid - price sold divided by time spent photographing, listing, and packaging. I would rather make $50 on an item I can photograph, list, and package in 10 minutes than a $100 on an item that takes me 2 hours to do all of that. Any economic equation must include time. What is the value of your time? But that is why I love doing this, I can make more money in 8 hours of driving around finding, listing, and packaging items than a minimum wage job would pay me in 40 hours. The best part though is no bosses, I set my own hours, plenty of free time to do whatever the hell I want. Only downside as always, customers.
