Two months ago, I was on my way back from a class trip at the Chesapeake Bay when I saw a Cash For Gold shop that had a sign saying they buy gold, silver & coins, so I figured I would give it a shot. I'm sure glad I did. The owner had several Morgan and Peace dollars and he was selling them at 20 bucks a piece! I ended up buying 21 of them. He also had some half dollars for 9 dollars a piece so I ended up getting two 1964 Kennedy's and three tarnished proof Franklins, a 1961, 1962 and 1963. But that's not all: One of the Peace dollars I found was a 1928 NO MINT MARK! He must have overlooked it or mistook it for a 1923. I got that for 20 dollars as well. The only silver dollar I paid less than 20 for is that culled 1922 Peace. He said he would do 15 for that; he told me he actually pays 15 bucks a piece for the Morgan & Peace dollars, and he looks up the prices in a book. For the rest of the silver coins he has, he said he doesn't bother to look them up in a book because it's too much work for him. Altogether I ended up paying $460, and he didn't charge me tax!

I think this calls for a celebration! :headbang::hello2:

Nice job! If he doesnt look up the junk silver, buy that next time (too). You never know what you are going to find!

Yes, many of these places probably only think scrap value, when it comes to pm's. May be a good place to start searching for hidden gems, as evidenced above.

I forgot to mention that these are all real silver dollars. I weighed them and did the magnet test; they all passed.

If you're good at jewellery, buy that too if they're in good condition.

I know nothing about jewelry. I plan to go back there in a few weeks. The shop is about 1 hour, 20 minutes or so from where I live; I will make sure to call on the same day I plan to go in to ask how many Morgan and Peace dollars he has available.

The problem is that at $20 per silver dollar you are 35% over spot. Too rich for my blood. I would offer $25 to let you cherry pick his silver coins then only take the MS and key dates.

Apmex will buy them for more than that in many cases.

I'm not sure where you live, but in my area buying Morgans at $20 each is unheard of unless they are culls. Morgans, Silver Eagles, 90% silver all carry a premium.

Culled Morgan and Peace dollars at $20 each sounds normal. I know one dealer who sells culls for $25 a piece, but his stuff is a bit overpriced.

Yea, I would be good at $20 each for generic/common silver dollars but no more than that.
