Today's Gold Finds - nearly cried with the Cartier find!

In all, I spent about $45 total on jewelry.

One box lot, mostly costume and GF $10
Included the 10k Avon pin - 1.5 grams

Another sale in the same neighborhood netted the following three 14k pieces.

$0.50 14K Cartier sweater clip
12.3 grams

$0.50 14K Bird Pin (LOVE this piece - likely a keeper) - can't make out the makers mark. Appears to have a hand etched mark or signature.
4.1 grams

$0.50 14 K Two tone hoop earrings
1.9 grams

When I flipped over the largest piece, and read CARTIER, I nearly flipped! I kid you not, I had tears in my eyes when I was telling my husband.

In addition, I found a total of 85 grams of sterling and gold filled mix.

I also found a combined 4 pounds of costume, including Coro, Monet, Napier, and Trifari.

I also found a ring, I'll call it a mystery piece (separate post). Not sure what to make of it!!

Wow! That Cartier piece is pretty nice. It's not the prettiest thing out there but still very sought after by collectors. I'm still searching for a men's cigar band ring Cartier made in the 20's and 30's.

I'm gonna have to start looking at TS and more yard sales

I love the little bird pin, too. Great haul!
I have an old bird like yours and it hold a gold ladies pocket watch. Pin watch, I guess.
I'd give pics, but it's locked up at the bank. Let us know if you find anything more on yours!

Wow. That is an amazing find. Did you feel like you were committing a robbery when you paid? I think that piece is very in style right now.
Thanks for sharing!

I told my mom, WORST idea ever. She has a voice that carries. Definitely feel like this many times. Until I realize that if I didn't pick it up, someone else would. This helps me sleep at night (I think).

What do you do with all the costume jewelry that is not gold or silver? Do you sell them by the pound or something similar? What do you usually get?

Now I'm wondering if the Cartier piece is real - any help? I'm not seeing any pieces signed with all cap letters like the piece I have (will test for purity later).

Did you get a chance to check yet? I was going to leave you a happy dance for your finding. I really hope it is all good.

Might suggest Marv Shanklin of Cigar Afficianado Magazine. He can probably help you find one.

I tested the piece last night. At the very least , it is 14k gold. If it's not real, then I will likely have to melt the piece or keep it for myself.

Wow Hard to believe that some people can be so lucky.
I am shocked myself most days. I see that you like to metal detect. I was at the Jersey shore doing some detecting this weekend with my husband. First time we've ever at a beach. Found a bunch of change (the number of quarters was a bit surprising). My husband couldn't believe it when I pulled a Mexico 925 ring out. He was a bit bummed that he didn't find it. Now I need to get my own detector so I don't have to wait until his arm gets tired to do detecting myself.

BAD news - the Cartier piece wasn't real (still 14k, so a sweet $245).

GOOD news - the Hublot watch is real (stainless steel, but real). Cost me $15 to replace the battery. I think I'll enjoy it for a while before listing on eBay. Not sure when I will be able to afford a $1600 watch any time soon...so, enjoy it while it lasts!!!
