I should have known when mojjax said "old school desk" he meant really old! That is a great piece.

Are you going to refinish it, or sell as is?
I would not even think of refinishing this piece but that's just me. The marks on the desk is what gives it it's character.

I remember on the Antiques Road Show, one of the Keno twins was talking to this woman about her drop table that had an old black burn ring where a hot kettle had been set on it. The woman said she came this close to refinishing it because of that ring. Keno said if she had, it would have dropped the price from about $200,000.00 to $20,000.00. Extreme case, I know.

I remember that show + others where the people were in shock because they did refinish an old piece of furniture . My Mother use to buy old furniture back in the 70's - she would strip them down & "Antique" them with streaky paint - It was a fad back then - Big Mistake Fad !

I remember that too.

I'd like to met the person who would pay that for a desk with a burn on it. If it had the slightest signs of use you sure couldn't sell it on eBay. Imagine telling your wife you payed $200,000 for a desk. Do you know how long you would hear about the burn mark.

Cool desk. Now you can tell everyone you were Oxford educated.
