Every once in a while I go and check out the local fleamarket. I really don't have time were at church half the day and it's just too hot to go walk around by the time we get out. But I had to go get a necklace fixed and have a ring looked at. So the first place I stopped that I bought two Sterling handled fork and knife for .50 each. And I also bought a keychain that's a Mercedes-Benz. And it just looks like regular keychain until you flip it over! The guy said I've had that out here for years and nobody even pick it up why in the world would you buy it! Well because it's probably worth more than $.50! What do you think?

I bet in the years he had it, he never flipped it over either!

The next place I stopped at the lady has bags of jewelry and she's like that one bag has real gold in it! I look at the earrings and I'm like no it doesn't this is fake. She said no honey they're real you need to learn what you're looking at! I give her the $2 dollars and walk away and as I'm walking I hear her and her boyfriend laughing going that sucker he bought it that's not real gold in there, it's fake! Hahahaha.

After getting home I decided I will stop at their booth next Sunday and see how funny they are!

The feather earrings are bone and similar ones of sold around 20. There's a earring that's a gold stud pearl and a 8.3 g of scrap 14k. Also some sterling. Glad to see I'm a sucker!

Maybe it's the heat that makes them mad!

I wouldn't say a word about it, nor would I ever lead on about how much money you made.

If they think their stuff is fake, you might as well see what they have for the next 10 years. The next score might be worth thousands!

FWIW, I've sold stuff in the past that people flipped and made money on, without me knowing what it was worth in the beginning. One guy was so proud of himself that he actually came to me and bragged about it, ad nauseam.

(When we were starting out, our goal was to be totally debt free, so if I could make $10 off of a $1 investment, I was happy as a lark. Our game was to move as much stuff as we could, and as fast as we could.)

In that case, I was brand new to the flea market business, and the guy was buying galvanized tubs from me for $5 each. At the time, I didn't know that used, beat up galvanized tubs were selling for $30+ each. Instead of keeping his head, and asking me if I had any more tubs, this dude kept saying "I bought two from you a month ago for $4 each, and I sold them for $50. I made $42 off of you, and you didn't even know it."

He then tried to give me his number, and insisted I call him, and treated me as if I was his lackey, or something.

I appreciate him educating me about how hot galvanized was...I never again marked a tub less than $25.

Just imagine how much money he could have made had he not been condescending, and had kept his mouth shut....

When I buy women's jewelry at sales or flea markets, I always tell them I just bought a bunch of tools for myself so I have to take something home for my wife, works every time! Good luck!

In reality I won't ever say anything to them. Just as irritating it over a dollar or $.50 or two dollars that someone can be so rude about something so little.

I bet when they see you coming they'll be talking to one another... Hey, here comes that dummy again. As your laughing your way to the bank. Honestly, sometimes I actually play the dumb card. I'm big and very tall and a lot of people correlate size with stupidity to begin with so yeah, I'm just a big dumb lunk.

I think I would treat this situation like this: just think that you probably misunderstood them. Is it possible that they were laughing because you THOUGHT it was fake? It would be very poor business sense to laugh and mock your buyers that they got ripped. If these two are really doing that to customers, they may not have any teeth in their heads when you go back to buy more. She did point you to the bag that had the real gold in it. Next time, try a bag that she tells you is fake and see what ya get.

Yeah but you should see some of the flea market vendors around here (and Ft. Myers area). A lot of them are missing their teeth already, or at least most of them, lol. Some of them look like they crawled out of the woods somewhere and they are their own brother.
