So, my yard sale profits were chewing a hole in my pocket. I took a ride to an auction about 45 min away. I had to wait nearly three hours just to bid on these wooden boxes. Why you ask? Well, first they are pretty darn cool for one. AND, I opened the one drawer before the auction started (people were still busy with the box lots in the other room - got there too late to bother with those) and noticed film canisters with "beads" and "earring backs" written on the lids. 'Nuf said. I closed the box and went along my merry way. I haven't looked inside and now as I make my 45 min trek back home, I wonder, what was your best "mystery box" find? I'll be sure to share what I find inside as soon as I get home. Pulled off the road to share (btw, thx for "getting me")! Better "box" photos to follow. PAID $25 (plus 6% tax plus 10% buyers premium).

Had to stop for groceries, so I grabbed these pics in the meantime.

What's behind drawer number 1?

Too funny - looks like I won't be needing to buy a set of jeweler's screwdrivers. ;)

That first drawer is a fine set of hobby tools, no matter what hobby. Most of those I have for model train building. So far so good.

What's behind drawer number two?

Looks like a decent miniature mitre box (with literature - otherwise I would have had no idea what it was).

The pine box and drawers don't "appear" to be too old with plywood bottoms... but I'll be curious to see what you find out.... LET US KNOW.

The packaging on some of those tools & toys looks to be 1960's, like the Starrett Small Hole Gauge box (it doesn't actually contain hole gauges). Some real goodies there among the screws.... You'd easily get your $25 plus tax plus premium and likely double that just for the goodies only. Consider that a real bonus. Shall we say that you actually found treasure?

Oddly enough, box number two, with all of the film canisters had just that, film canisters filled with brads, beads (nothing of quality), and a few other odds and ends. It did have an x-acto knife.

That's funny bc I was trying to figure out what this guy (gal) did with all of these tools, etc...

Train builder, clock builder, ....?

I'm happy. ;)
Not gold...or a rare coin....
But treasure in my book.

I'll prob sell the tools (except for the jeweler's screwdriver set) and keep the boxes for my jewelry stash.

My guess is that whoever owned that box was a model builder and a jewelry/bead person.

Evergreen plastic and Testors paint, along with Xacto tools are a dead give away to a model builder.

Maybe it was a husband and wife hobby box? I am constantly using my wife's bead/jewelry hobby supplies for building models.

Cool find! What are you plans for the dresser? It is awesome, never mind all the other treasures you found inside.

Thx for sharing.

I was at an auction about a month ago. The one guy said he bought a box lot the week before. There was a mason jar filled with cufflinks. Guess some of the cufflinks turned out to be gold and he made over $800 off of them.

Old model paints sell well. I picked some up as part of a mixed lot for a few bucks and sold them for $8. & $10 each.
