civil war revolver

Hi All

I picked this up this morning for $150, took it home and started taking a closer look at it and attempting to get it working. I finally figured out how to remove the spinning cylinder and clean it out. Got it back together and everything is working perfectly. It has some marks on it - RC with an anchor inbetween and what looks like A.P.. There is also some proof marks on it that i cant make out. They look like a figure 8 with some other marks coming off it. At first i thought it might be a Kerr revolver but not really sure. Also thought it might be a CS revolver that was contracted over seas somewhere. Anyone have any thoughts? Thanks

I believe this is a confederate issue Kerr revolver. Some of these were produced overseas.

That's a cool find , would think quite a rare firearm ..cheers Mick

I would think its overseas production by the marks. The south did contract arms production to Europe. The French LeMat pistol comes to mind so it could very well be foreign.

Check with a gun forum and let them tell you everything

I sent the photos to the owner of civil war arsenal. He just got back to me - he is away for the weekend but is going to research the revolver when he gets back. Ill have some more info in the up coming week. Cant wait to hear what he says. Thanks for all the comments so far.

I believe that is a Spanish copy of the Kerr as it appears to look like the revolver in this auction

A civil war used Kerr would be a cap and ball gun not metallic cartridge like you have. Still a good deal at $150.

yes you beat me to it! I posted this on a civilwar forum and another member echoed your exact sentiments. Now to figure out how much this particular gun is worth.

Very nice Kerr conversion. I didn't read the replies first and thought I solved it for you.
note to self- read all replies before researching for answers, lol.
