Ive Been meaning to post this but was busy with work before I went on vacation. At my favorite flea market I got this great vise. I always go to this guy first and have never paid more than a $1 for anything he was selling until I bought this vise. When he said ''how about 8 dollars" I was exited and grabbed it. Whenever I buy from him its always "how about 25 cents" up to $1. The cheapest I have paid is when he said 20 cents for a wrench. Im thinking this is a pretty old vise.

Wow...that is a killer find!!!

I paid $35 for the last one that I found, and thought that I had the find of the century at that price.

How much does it weigh? How wide are the jaws?

Does it open and close okay?

Yes opens and closes fine. Its a 50 pounder with 5 inch jaws. I was hoping for a bit heavier as I think they might be more desirable, but am very happy with my first post vise. I was dreaming of finding one for awhile, didn't expect the $8 price though.

That's sure some rusty gold. 8 bucks is supper. I'd have a great reply for my wife when she ask, "why'd you buy that old thing? cuz, it was only 8 bucks, honey. Did you you think I should let someone else have it for that heck of a price?? She'd still not understand, even if I got it for nothing. That ones an oldie!

I sold the last leg vise I had for $125, I think.

It weighed 42 pounds, and had a repaired handle, which was welded in two spots. I think the jaws on mine were 4 inch. I sold it at an indoor flea market, and it sat for a few months before it sold. Not many people get up on a Saturday morning and say, "hey, let's go see if there are any 'smithing vices at the local flea market."

At least I didn't have to ship it, and I didn't have to pay any FVF. I got as much for it as I could have expected on ebay.

Nice buy. Those sell for between $50-$75 at First Monday in Canton. I bought a good one last year for $50 with a base and use it all the time.

I was told that the market should be somewhere around $3 a pound for a decent leg vice.

I am not an expert, but I got about $3 a pound for the two that I had.
