I'm not sure if this is copper I actually think it might be brass or bronze possibly but I'm not sure. It weighs about 12 ounces maybe about 8 inches long maybe 3 inches high 3 inches wide hinged. And there's no makers marks on it from when I saw. Definitely solid. Wondering if anybody else seen anything like this or has any idea about it. Thank you.

Looks like an ornamental item for tourists but still neat. I would guess it's from India or near those reigons. They made lots of cast bronze/brass items there for export

Are the pins in the hinges magnetic? Or are they the same metal? It could help in determining its age.

Just looking at it I would assume it's an older tourist item, India-made, less than 100 years old. Kind of a wild guess. Solid and nice looking, but I don't think it's a proper antique.

I think the term for these is "jewelry casket" and they do look nice and sell well. Does it look like it had some kind of lining inside?

By looking at it the hinges look the same however it's not at my house it's at one else's house so I would have to call her and ask.

Good ID Diggs, I was thinking the piece shows a bit more craftsmanship, detail and heavy construction over most the India brass items found. That right looking patina inside and outside could be a good sign of true age. I have seen cast boxes like it with greenish patina on the outside, but none on the inside. Go figure that one? I think it's a winning score.
