I spent $90 on the loose items. I told the lady at the register that there were a few other items I as interested in, but not at $10 each. She said to put a pile together and she would make me a good deal. Went outside and moved my car. Came back and negotiated $50 for what you see in the bag. Not all gold, some GF and at least one pair of earrings are Sterling. I'll post more pics later. I'm happy though, all for $140. I'll take it.

Nice pile of jewelry! No gold for me this weekend. Only gold filled and sterling with a few pieces of vintage costume too. Among the other things that is!

These are from the $50 lot

14K - 5.7g
Sterling - 20.0g
Cameo(?) Gold plate
Gradall charm/pendant

Then there is a question of the diamonds (?) from both lots. I really need to buy a gem tester. Any recommendations?

Probably a stupid question, but what do you do with it now? Sell it to recycling companies?
I can't bring myself to do that unless the piece is broken or mismatched. I'm hoarding items for the moment. I also sell to jewelry stores.

I just sent $700 worth of the ARA metals. I'm probably going to send in with other seven or $800 next week. Most of it scrap I keep some of the nicer stuff but I need to just start flipping at no point in holding onto it for 10 years to wait for to go back up!

Just wondering if you test your gold scrap before you sent it to ARA? Did you pull all the stones or let them send them back to you?
Did you get an estimated date to know when you should get your money?

I hope you'll follow up with how close you estimated it would be compared to the check you get.

Good point. I've been holding some for 2-3 months (maybe, just maybe it will go back up). I'll have to see how tight my finances get towards the holidays. I'm going to list some on eBay too. No takers yet on the 2 pieces I listed a few weeks ago though.

I'm also curious to see your response to "Bill's" questions. I've generally not shipped items away. Guess I'm fearful I will never see them again.

I test all of my unmarked pieces. More for my own knowledge than for resale purposes. I only sell the unmarked items as scrap. Unless they are really nice like the snake pin I found about 2 years back. That one was added to my personal collection. Wouldn't want to risk someone claiming I sold them faulty goods.

Yeah take almost turns out myself. One check was different by $32 less then I thought it would be. 2 were spot on. This will be the 4th this week. 10gr 10k and 25gr 14k.

I did send in this weird necklace and they sent it back and said it was fake. But a cash for gold store paid me $350 for it. Who knows on that one. It was rhodium plated too soo...

Beachkid, do you mind me asking, do you have a tax or business number? I used to use ARA all the time, but because of Obamacare, yup, Obamacare, I was told I needed one or the other to have precious metals melted down and a check sent to me. Has something changed? I did even talk to the nice people at ARA and was told the same, but that was a couple of yrs ago. Thank you in advance for your help, Kid.

I could have one but I just use my social for the last four of it. And they sent me a check but haven't had any problems yet and I'm pretty much don't have to worry about my taxes no matter what they are for the next five years because of some crazy personal thing that happened with us. But I'm going to get a tax id # shortly. Jan maybe
