If you type the denomination and the writing on the coin into google, they will give you the composition of the coin. Time consuming.

You may wish to use 1965 as a guideline: Pre '65 might contain silver; post '65 will not; again, as a 'general rule'. And if you paid the $2.00 as indicated on the package from a dealer, that's more evidence the coins have minimal values.

Any of the larger banks should be able to convert them IF they are still valid currency. A quick view looked as if most of the bills are Vietnamese with at least one Philippine.

An example of non valid currency could be somewhat demonstrated by European coins that are not Euros (with the exception of the British Pound). I'm not sure if you could still convert say.. Italian Lyre for Euros.

Thanks for the help. I didn't think to clarify where they came from, but they were purchased at a garage sale.

i picked up a pile of foreign coins a few years ago. what a pain in the neck trying to figure them out. most of the time the coins and bills where no longer current currency and worthless. even the older coins pre 64 where not silver no matter what year even as far back as ww11 they where not silver. i got tired of them and they went to the back of the closet.

i dont see any silver in there and few coins that are still exchangeable today. its easier to sell by the pound on ebay or just keep it.

I bought a small baggy of coins a few weeks ago. Maybe 100 or so. I just looked at each one and those that had that silver look I did research on. very simple. I used "hey google" I just read off what the coin said and google pulled up the right info 75-80% of the time. Any site that has info about the countrie's coind will also list the metal it is made of. Also if the coin has silver in it, it will give percentage and sometimes tell you the weight of silver in the coin.

The Canadian coins and Euro coins can still be spent at face value. The Mexican coins and pre-Euro coins are basically worthless if not silver.
