Is this a Rare piece of Royal Doulton?

Hey everyone,

I purchased this interesting piece of Royal Doulton pottery at a thrift store for $2. I tried researching it via google but came up short. I figured out that it dates from the 1930s. Is it rare? Any ideas on value?

I placed a penny next to it to give you an idea of size.

I tried searching, too. No good results.
I was calling it a RD covered vegetable soup bowl, soup tureen, vegetable server.... then I noticed it has the little server hole, so I tried with jam server, marmalade jar (didn't try honey server/jar), I had also tried butternut squash, but then when I look at your piece, that's not a butternut, is it? Ebay has 2 similar, one was a "majolorca" the other holland?

What kinda fruit or veggie is that? LOL! Some kinda melon?

That mark looks more like the 1902-1922 mark to me:

As for the type of squash, looks more like a buttercup or a summer squash then a butternut. Could also be a yellow pumpkin. You could also add the work "gourd" to your search terms. Nice piece, good luck ID'ing it.

I did some searching and couldn't find anything like it either. It might be rare or it might not but even if it is rare that does not necessarily make it valuable. Value is as much a function of popularity as rarity. Also, it looks like there is a small chip missing on the stem which will hurt the value some. All that being said, it is a cute piece and a nice pick for $2.

Thanks for trying. The chip is actually glazed over so it looks like a production flaw.

I think it's a pot for holding preserves.There are other examples of the novelty Doulton jam pot.
The examples below showing apple, pear and pineapple date from about 1920-30. Sorry, cannot say if bit is worth anything, but it may be with getting in touch with them here:

Forgot to say that this mark was commonly in use from1932, but sometimes seen between 1928 and 1931, as shown in Treasurekidds link. It says that the mark is still used on fine earthenware products such as character jugs.

It's a melon! Cantaloupe or muskmelon but that should hopefully narrow down your search

I think its some sort of condiment jar; preserves, mustard, jelly.

I think they are going to tell you its worth quite a bit.

All I can say is I've spent a good hour, twice, trying to find this or a similar piece and I have found nothing. I know it's a condiment, jam, jelly, mustard or what have you jar/pot. That is evident with the lid. I just cannot find this pattern. I've used every search term available from melon, squash, cantelope, citron, gourd, pumpkin, onion, novelty, fruit, vegetable, etc., etc. So rare... yes!

btw- I have 4 listings of Royal Doulton up right now, 3 of them have bids.
