WW1 bolo knife dated 1917 / 1918
found this old knife in a scabbard at the flea market, the blade has WW1 dates
U.S. MOD. 1917 C.T.
AC.CO.
1918
CHICAGO
it's a heavy bladed knife, I heard these were used by machine gunners to cut foilage , digging, etc to make a machine gun nest, or as a hand to hand combat weapon, it measures about 16" inches with scabbard.
the scabbard is marked:
FRED MEDART MFG CO. 1918

Just because it did not work does not mean it was not a good plan!

That is an exceptionally well conditioned M 1917 Bolo They were indeed issued for WWI and seem to have been issued to all troops, not just machine gunners, The knife in that condition is worth at the very least 300.00 to any knowledgeable collector. You have done very well RETREAD
