Great finds Tallone! Your leather bag is an excellent find, it is an early Ghurka bag, back when the main brand name was Marley Hodgson. The company now just goes by Ghurka, and still makes extremely expensive leather goods! Here's an example of your bag that sold for almost $200.

You were most certainly right, Baltimore. I decided to list the Ghurka bag at what I thought was a high price of $149. If it didn't sell I was going to keep it. It sold immediately. Finding that bag was pure luck. I didn't even know it was in the box when I bid on it. By the way, the MacIntosh poster sold for $175 so my net profit on that day's purchases currently stands at a little over $100 and I still have a bunch of stuff to sell.

I've done well with slides in lots. Individually, they are just too much work for me. But I sold one lot of Vietnam slides for $500, off ebay to someone who had bought another item from the same estate from me. Besides airplanes and war, old vacations to famous places can do well. It does not seem like the age of the slide is as near as important as the subject matter.

Oh -- Nehru?

Yes, that is Nehru. Trains also are a very popular subject for these old slides. I have sorted through all of the slides I bought and have pulled out maybe 20 that might sell well individually. One of the most interesting (and hopefully most valuable) is a photo from the 1940s of what I believe are three Japanese Zero fighter planes like the one shown below.

I also have several good pictures of other planes and some steam powered trains. I'll post pics if I can get my scanner working.

I finally got my scanner working. Took me about three hours to figure it out but I got 'er done! So here are a few of my favorite slides from this batch of Kodachromes. These are all from the 1940s and 50s.

All 3 of these are of the same train taken, I'm sure on the same day. I think there is another of the back end of the red engine. Pictures of steam engines are very popular so I have high hopes from this little group.

Three nice shots of vintage aircraft. I think the last one is a DC-3. I don't know about the other two. Can anybody ID these planes?

This may be my favorite. I'm pretty sure this is a group of three WWII Japanese Zero fighter planes. I wish the guy had captured the complete tail but it is still a nice clear shot. This looks like it was taken in Japan. The slide mount dates it to the 1940s so this was probably shortly after the war was over. I have high hopes for getting a good price on this one.

The first airplane slide you posted is a Zero. The ones in your latest post, I think are AT6 Texans, which were used in many movies to represent Zeros, or maybe Dauntlesses. The passenger plane with yellow strip I would guess is either a Convair or Douglas DC-4 or DC 6.

All I can say is WOW! I would think even with the horrible color the slides of JFK would still be worth something. With photoshop, they can be fixed, no? IDK, they just look like such an interesting piece of history. Very, very cool finds. Congrats on the sale, too.

Hey Muggs...

I saw your post and thought I'd asked a question to you and others about 8mm film while you are talking about old slides.

I have a friend that has old 8mm film of a young President John Kennedy getting off a plane and the escort vehicles leaving with him in view. Any value for 8mm films of notable people?

Thanks,
Bill

Well... JFK doesn't appear in the photos. Jackie Kennedy and Nehru are in a couple of pics but no pics of the President. I suppose somebody skilled with Photoshop could restore proper color. I may put the picks of Jackie and Nehru out on eBay just to see if there is any interest.

@ OSB - I'm know very little about vintage airplanes so I guess I will need to check into exactly what kind of airplane those fighters are. Thanks for the heads up.

@ Brendan - My target is $50 profit on each item. Some items (air compressor, the rack, and the pins) I bought for personal use. Another item (the Hartmann bag) will go to my daughter. I expect I will achieve my target on most of the other items. I have already turned a profit of nearly $150 on the day's purchases and I have many more things to sell some of which have already been bid on. The only real bust in the group was the clock. Had that clock been operational, I would have done OK on that as well but it is my own fault for failing to check it more carefully. My philosophy is "get it while you can". I don't often find things that meet my $50 profit criterion (I haven't bought anything the last two weekends) but when I encounter good opportunities, I buy them regardless of how many items are involved.

Speaking of 8mm films; a buddy of mine showed me a home movie his father made of JFK in a motorcade on November 21, 1963. As we were watching it I said to him, "Gee, if you dad had waited a day, you could retire." (though his film was shot in Houston)
