I have a friend who is hurting financially and asked me to help him out

He asked me to sell some very large gems for him and I will get some commission

For example

He gave me a 370 carat ruby. Certified with card from gla. Replacement value $15000

Checking eBay. Doesn't help much. And I know I can go to our local gold buyer and they buy stones. But I want to maximize the profit for him. Any suggestions

I'd never heard of GLA so I googled them. Looks to me like the certificate might not be worth the paper it's printed on. Take it to your local gold buyer & get them to give you an offer. That will at least give you a place to start.

there are usually gem and mineral auctions around here from time to time. but you might need to check the turn out at one before you took the risk. but then he is going to get hit double commissions.

Is the local gold buyer certified to appraise stones? I would probably take it to a jeweler and get it appraised from them too.

I don't know diddly about gems but based on what I've read online about GLA you could divide the appraised value by 100 to get an idea of what it's really worth.

I also have a green bery about the same size and value
Black diamond 3.2 carat (not moosanite. Value $3,200

And an emerald. That is around 1500 carats. Value 15,000

My buddy said if he got around 5k for all of it he would be happy. My wife is trying to stop at a jewler friends place today to see if we can get real world value

I am no expert but I doubt you will get very much for these . The appraised value appears to be super inflated, the gem looks to be low quality, and it is not very attractive.

Oh, and for assuming for the moment that the ruby is real, from the pictures, it is the worst cut and faceted one I have ever seen. The inclusions are horrible, but maybe that's just from the lighting.

OOPS MY MISTAKE. Look in the window. It says mailbox services. So you mail to the beverly hills address and it gets forewarded to here, but a mailbox #168 and Christina Cruz walks in to get her mail.

Desired rubies are transparent. Fewer inclusions are best. Search eBays completed sold listings from highest to lowest and check out the quality of the highest selling ones. Hopefully the other stones are better quality.
