peace dollar help needed

I don't normally mess with any kind of silver dollars. I usually stick to pennies through quarters. Anyway these came up for auction and I bought all three of them for around $20 each. I can see that on the 1935-S and 1927-D that they're work good money if uncirculated. I can't tell what these are, AU or UNC. They have a terrible strike, I guess that's common on branch mints. I've seen what to look for, but I don't personally have any graded uncirculated ones to really look at and compare. What's your all's opinion on these three. The 1926-P looks the best to me, also worth the least probably.

The value in the end of things = grading depends on whether you are buying or selling them. You buy at a higher grade and sell as a lower grade = corrupt? Yep!

Having lost my lifetime coin collection in divorce, it doesn't matter to me anymore. But 40 years of coin shows and coin shops, the shows are like a carny for suckers. Many times I'd take a special BU+ coin (which I'd examined with heavy magnification), offer up for evaluation at the coin show, and as a minimum be told the coin is AU at best. Seeing that repeatedly over the years destroyed my trust of the "Pro" dealers.

I agree that the coins in the pictures you posted are suspect. But what the heck do I know......

that's odd !

the dates are not super rare and they look very good condition. at best Fine .
I find it hard to believe they are Fakes.

is the weight Way Off ?

that said, even if real you did over pay imo.


I suppose I would have paid $11 each,$11.5089 is the rounded silver value for the 1921-1935 silver Peace dollar on August 07, 2015. This is usually the value used by coin dealers when selling these coins at melt value. If I could have handled them to be absolutely confident on Content of course.

way off as in only 23 grams each. they do have lots of luster so was thinking weak strike. its just not normal looking and hard to picture, thats what was confusing me. i dont know a single coin dealer that would pay less than melt on either morgan or peace dollars considering they can still sell them for $20+ each.

This ^^. Even if real, Peace Dollars are incredibly tough to grade. Way harder than trying to grade Morgans, for example.

I was looking at the weak strike on one, the "blob" on the rim on one, and the one which looked like it was a casting.

"They didn't know..." That's your biggest issue if you ask me. I felt the same about the coins. Clearly suspect. Look for the seams (can you give a shot of the rims? Just for kicks.
