Thanks for the links. I will have to do some more in depth research but for a quickly put together strategy -
1) most anything still sealed
2) first or early albums of those bands that became famous
3) pay close attention to obscure labels
4) look for colored vinyl or picture discs

added later:
5) condition, condition, condition
6) psychedelic, metal, jazz, and soul are usually better than pop, rock, and country

I never post, but read a lot here. Vinyl is my thing. A major point to remember is that people who collect records want to listen to them. Just like any other collectible, condition is key. That goes for the sleeves as well as the media. Sealed record can be warped as well, no way to tell without opening.

5 minutes is a gamble to me. You may have to judge overall condition on the basis in the lot by looking at the condition of a few.

You may already know but the online vinyl bible is Discogs.com.

Ive bought a lot of albums and the psychedelic obscure is highly sought after. Stuff you would pass up looking for names you know, worth only a $1 or so at best.
Also Heavy metal is good. And rule #1, your lp is worth crap if it is scratched and scuffed unless a very rare lp. If you plan to sell don't buy scratched/scuffed, nobody wants them.

Well, there wasn't much good that I could see at the sale. The records were well used. The 45s were just stacked without sleeves so they were in bad shape. Most of the music was pop/rock from the late 60s through the 70s. I did buy a few albums because I liked them -
Rolling Stones - Between the Buttons
Beatles - Revolver
The Doors - Morrison Hotel
Three Dog Night - Suitable for Framing
and one just because the cover was autographed by The Van-Dells. They were only a buck each. Not going to get rich on these but it's fun none the less. I appreciate all of your advice.
