Went to the Brimfield antique flea market yesterday and picked up some cool things. Such as: a piece of scrap sterling from a broken vase for $1.00. About 2 ozt. A sterling vintage nail buffer for $1.00. A large coin silver serving spoon for $35. Several early coin silver coffin handle spoons for $63. And what I think the coolest thing, a buttstock of a Pennsylvania long rifle circa 1770. That was a trade for a Mexico sterling bracelet that was 0.68 ozt and a $10 bill!! I stopped at a guy later that morning who is a big time authority on early Americana and said that was a score. Probably $350 worth of parts alone. He's also a gunsmith.

Yeah, I couldn't think of what it was called and that came to mind. I know, pretty sad for a pirate! [emoji38]☠

Maybe it was from a Blunderbutt?

Lmao!![emoji38][emoji38]. That's hilarious! I did edit and changed it though just for my own sanity. It was a really cool find and will go into my collection of other 18th century goodies. The heart, star and the little ornaments on the barrel piece are silver! I gently polished those up to show them off. I think it was a pretty special gun in its former life when it was all there.

Just a couple of photo updates on the long riffle. The star, heart and decorations on the barrel stock are all silver and everything else is brass. (Which I new anyway). I did polish the silver parts and one small piece of brass just to show them off a bit, but I'm leaving everything else alone as is! The trigger guard, butt plate and patch (cloth) box are the money pieces and I want to leave the 240+ years of tarnish and history on them as well as the wood. I know it's not a complete piece and is somewhat of a hot mess, but I'm pretty proud to own it now and to save yet another not so perfect relic.
