As I was leaving , Lots of more people were arriving , digging through stuff outdoors - I spotted this GAR metal in the dirt next to the pile - people were stepping on it , I waited for a opening , and grabbed it ! I didn't Know It was a GAR til I got in my truck and looped it .

What is the date of the GAR medal. As you approach the 1940's the number of delegates drops significantly. If you recall my 1945 one sold for $336! There were only around 165 delegates that year.

The front of the metal says '' DELEGATE TO THE 19th ANNUAL NATIONAL ENCAMPMENT ''
The back says '' GRAND ARMY OF THE REPUBLIC '' '' 1861 - VETERAN - 1866 ''

GAR held an annual "National Encampment" every year from 1866 to 1949. I assume that dates the 19th Annual National Encampment to 1885? With the GAR 490,000 members strong in 1890, I'm thinking 1885 had a large number of delegates. So, while maybe not as rare or sought after as a GAR medal from the the 1940s, your medal is still a very cool find. Congrats!

That's a lot of wonderful stuff. I'm sure glad you asked when you did. You would never know if you don't ask. I'm always offering up help if I see people cleaning out. Congrats!!

Hot rodders prefer license plates from the year of their car. A single decent plate for my '33 costs at least $70. I bet the little orange one would fetch a pretty penny.

Good show!

I also got this cool military book . I almost passed on it because I thought the spine was missing - nope . that's how it's made .
Inside the front cover it's partially hollow and there is a metal binding mechanism .It holds together a bunch of training manuals .
