I got this at a sale today and need help with it. I've seen a few pocket watches by the same maker "ferrovie dello stato" which I think translated is "State Railways". I just can't find one like it to get an idea of what it's worth. I believe it is a desk clock because of the bevel in the glass to make it sit straight on a desk but I don't know. I usually can find these myself but am having a hard time on this one and figured one of you might know more about it than I do which isn't much. The only writing in the movement is "17 jewels" Thanks

It may be an antique car clock and it may be an antique necklace watch. They were a fad a while back.

Maybe a desk watch. Might have hung from a small stand that sat on a desk. certainly would not want to keep it in my pocket

I searched google images for glass orb watch and glass orb clock. I found several similar, but none exact.

I know EXACTLY what this is. I saw one couple weeks back at my estate jeweler who is a watch enthusiast. The one I saw was made by Tiffany and solid 18k gold. This isn't Tiffany but its the same thing...... It's a clock pendant! Meant to be worn! Here is another one online https://www.1stdibs.com/jewelry/mor...y-co-crystal-gold-clock-pendant/id-j_1260963/ They are cool for sure! Not sure what your's is worth but definitely a cool pick up. Your's looks like silver as well.

It's as cool as the other side of the pillow but I don't really collect much. I'm not in a hurry to sell it either so I'll hang on to it till I know what I have but this is what I do to make some extra money. I probably should start collecting something though.

Ferrovie Dello Stato is an Italian owned holding company that manages the Italian Railway network. The Watch/Clock is likely Company issued to a Dispatcher, Rail Switchman or a Conductor and likely serves/served both as a Pocket Watch and a desk Clock. There is not a lot of information on their use and apparently none about them being issued by the holding company, Ferrovie Dello Stato.

I'll bet the Rolex and Omega version sell for a pretty penny as well.

No, I can't find one from that manufacturer in that style. But at least we know what it is called now.
