Picked these rings up for $5 a piece and wasn't sure if either were gold. As it turns out they are both solid gold and very old as well. The first ring turned out to be 10k with one opal and two rubies! Yes they are two real not synthetic rubies. Obviously the ring has seen better times as the gems themselves are pretty worn but but still make for a nice antique ring. This rings dates from about 1910-1920. Finally is my oldest ring by far! I had this tested at 8k and it definitely is solid! The gem is a rose de France amethyst most likely made in France as well. This ring dates from about 1880-1890 again not the best condition but still an amazing piece and worth a lot more than $5! The ring was tarnished badly when I bought it and with a quick wipe with a jeweler's cloth it came right off and it looks like gold again!

Great finds. I once dug a 10kt Gold Masonic pendant and assumed it was fake because although it was marked 416 it was a deep brown color. I did an acid test anyway just to be sure and it came up real. I put some polish on it and it brightened right up to a yellow gold color.

Those are both very nice rings! The ring with the 2 rubies is quite valuable as those are natural rubies in it and are quite rare. Almost all rubies sold today in fine jewelry stores are synthetic and ugly imo. That beauty from France even fits perfectly on your ring finger too! I pay a lot of money for Victorian and Art Deco rings. I think I would faint if I actually ever found even one for that price! You have a great eye.

Thanks! I love rings and old jewelry, seems to me that rings are the most abundant. I haven't found many bracelets or necklaces. Although both these rings aren't marked I will say one thing that helps a lot when going through rings is that fact I can see any markings without a loupe. Quick and easy, I can go through A LOT of rings fast since I don't have to sit there peering at each ring with a loupe trying to find markings!
