This morning I went a few towns over to garden grove to hit up a garage sale I read about last night. Well as it turns out, I should have woken up the first time my alarm went off because most of the sterling silver was already picked clean. Here's a few I managed to pull out of the mix...



Second from the right is this little number from the Soviet Union



This earring is a good piece of silver:



And of course I got this, my namesake! Will probably give this to my old lady, she loves dark stuff:

So I also found this today, although is was off CL and not from a GS. I also posted it to "what is this" subforum. Paid 40 bucks for it, hoping its at least an antique and maybe can re sell on Ebay

Nice lithograph, cool frame. Dates to the turn of the century 1890-1910, I'd say.

So I went at it again hard today and hit up some GS's and thrift stores.

It seems that most of the Christian type thrift stores in my area are gone. I'm talking the ones that charged only a buck for damn near every item in the store...it's a shame because the other thrift shops (goodwill, salvation army) have started marking up their bricabrac type items. I saw several items I could probably sell on ebay for a profit had they been charging something reasonable...anyway here's what I ended up with today. I'm hoping to resell these on ebay....i'd love some input from any ebayers out there on how to sell such items

This 1940's radio was given to me for free today at a garage sale. The old guy had a garage full of stuff like this since he repairs these things. I told him I didn't want to buy anything so he handed me this before i left




These items I got for a buck each..



This "viking vintage spoon" I looked it up and similar items have sold for around 15 bucks on ebay:


Heart shaped silver plated box from international silver co:



This beer stein is pretty cool, it has some german writing on it:



I dont usually go for stuff like this, its a little bell made of what seems to be porcelain or ceramic, not sure really. Hoping to sell for a few bucks. It's in good condition.

Probably. I think the International Silver Co. originally manufactured it.

blackrose... as for the picture/frame, I think it would sell for around $100 with the emphasis on both the frame and subject in the title. It's probably wood and gesso I would presume? Add ornate and Victorian Beauty with that and you have a good start. This is all providing the frame is in as good a condition as it looks on here.

Updates:

On the left is a "gold filled" chain with what I think is a plated emblem. Middle is a sterling ring, missing a stone. ON the right is a chain marked 14k CH. Not sure exactly what that means...though I'm sure thats not good. The chain weighs 15g.




Here is a close up of the mark...


I spent 20 on that chain...thinking I may have either come up a decent amount or got ripped.

He threw in these two little brooch's for free. I like stuff like this, (not pm though)

Test that chain. The actual clasp is fake, as is the jump ring, but the tag looks right. I've seen the identical tag many times - and it is welded to the chain on yours. A lot of times a gold chain breaks and someone goes to the jeweler for repair and has sticker shock. In comes the handy grandpa/uncle/aunt etc with plyers and a spare base metal clasp and, et voila - it's "fixed". Peope foolishy test only the casp, deem it not good and you get a great deal.

^ Will do. I don't have a testing kit (or stone) at the moment though.

It does feel somewhat...softer to the touch than the filled chains i've handled before so I think that's a good sign also.


Also got this decanter today. It's got the cork lid which is nice.

So that bottle I posted a picture of, is marked with "federal law prohibits the sale or re-use of this bottle".

After looking that up and marveling at the incredible detail of the bottle I purchased today, I'm convinced I got more than I bargained for on that five bucks...

And I'm not talking about ebay resale anymore, either. I quickly found out im not cut out for that, when it comes to antiques...still much to learn about the market and the items themselves..

But then again, that's the reason I'm here...and the reason this thread exists.

Will keep updating this thread with what I find, and much more importantly...what I learn.

Got a few more things to add to the collection. The same old couple that sold me the picture + frame told me they had some sterling on hand, so I went to check it out. This is what I came back with (this time) will probably go back and pick up the rest of it at some point because there's more where this came from.





Here's a matching necklace and 2 earrings, all sterling and weighing a decent amount

I think the pendant & the matching earrings may be "brutalist". If they are they would be worth a good bit more than melt value. I just recently started looking into brutalist jewelry & could be totally wrong. Hopefully someone with a little more knowledge will chime in.

Either Brutalist or Atomic Starbust. Cool pieces.

Edit- Took a closer look and noticed markings on each earring on two different "prongs". Are they signed with something besides 925?

THere is some kind of a "z" shaped mark on the part that secures the earring onto the back of the earlobe. Its so tiny though i cant really get a picture of it. Ill try to though

Yeah I took a closer look at that just now. Not a marking, just some scores / scuffs. Nothing that can be read or described.

I have a small dumbbell shaped magnet that I carry in the change pocket of my jeans. It is amazing the things that look so real stick right to it!
