vintage outboard motor

Picked up this vintage outboard motor this weekend. Its an Evinrude Elto Ranger 1.1 hp. These were manufactured from 1939-1941.

Didn't even have to dicker for it. Guy pointed it out and said you can have that for $3.00. Couldn't handle him the money fast enough.

If you need parts, look up Doug Penn. He used to race old Eltos and Evinrudes. Hes got a large website with lots of parts if yours need any fixing. I'd take the time to get it running and sell it in "as is" condition. Let th buyer restore it.

Agreed! The motor turned over and it was in good condition for having sat in a barn for a decade or two. Between the overzealous snowplows and drunks I've had to replace my mailbox so many times that I wouldn't even consider making a fancy mailbox.

Nursing a semi right now. I LOVE this type of thing. I usually clean the points, new plug, clean carb and tank, fresh fuel ....and away you go (in most cases). Two stroke fuel can stink after a while (so can normal petrol) I believe theres a bacteria that grows in it. I guess yours would require a higher oil content 25:1 or 20:1 maybe. Good luck.
