Killer Pens, Gold, Sterling & Watches

I hit a garage sale for the local Boy Scouts and bought a large box of silver plate cutlery. It probably had about 30 pieces in it but I spied a couple butter knives marked Sterling. I bought it for $10 and included a couple bags with jewelry with one having a sterling necklace and charm. Five Troy ounces total.

I then hit a couple yard sales and found this box of pens for an unbelievable price of three dollars. There are four fountain pens with 14 karat gold nibs including a solid sterling silver parker fountain pen and A really old Waterman 18 karat gold filled engraved pen. Needs work so I'll probably fix that one but both of those will end up in my personal collection. The best part is they were in a vintage Gerard Perregaux watch box! I should get a few bucks for that also. ImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1507431930.668379.jpg ImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1507431946.027419.jpg
I then hit an estate sale on half-price day and picked up a gold ring and a gold pendant that were half of the spot price! 4grams. Who discounts gold at 50%? I also picked up a cool goldfilled1942 East New York vocational high school senior pin. ImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1507432119.312634.jpg They also had a gorgeous sterling silver pin from the New York world's fair from 1964-1965. It is very unusual and I've seen nothing like it on the web. It should be an interesting sale. One is a Pillsbury doughboy one and the other is from the Waterworld movie. The last thing I picked up was this Hampden ladies gold filled pocket watch as a repair project that I can work on. It was $15 and a little more than I like to pay but the case is in very good condition. Unfortunately the rain set in around 10 AM and The yard sales seemed to shut down. It was a short but great day!

Funny how estate sales go like that. Some days ya see nothing, but crap and on other days your finding a gold mine.

That 18k gf pen is amazing. You should look into restoring and servicing fountain pens. If you can do watches you can do pens!! It's fun plus there is a huge dedicated forum that is insanely active on collecting fountain pens and what not.

I've watched a few videos on it and I am considering it. As a footnote I picked up a Schaeffer chrome nib fountain pen at the fleamarket yesterday. I was able to disassemble it and combine pieces to turn 14 karat gold nib desk pen from Saturday into a complete capped pen. Way to go! Is the Sheaffer a lever-filler? That should be possible to restore, but the conical nib makes it tricky. If it's a Touchdown or Vac...well....We started restoring pens last year. Have not yet dared touch a Vac.

It is a snorkel fill vac. It functions properly no restoration was needed on mechanical parts. 18 karat gold filled Waterman is a lever fill but needs a new lever box. I am definitely going to get that one restored.
