I heard, usually you can't go wrong with trains, usually is the magic word. LMAO I have over 30 locomotives and I just sold one for $125.00 so that was a good start and yes, it is and was a big gamble. By the way I am in Northport, Maine

I've done well with trains. The money is in the locomotives. Test them first, but broken ones will sell if desirable. The box cars depend on brand, type, etc, but may be best in lots.

I probably wouldn't have paid that much for the lot. When my father in-law passed I ended up selling his collection. There was a good bit of money in the trains but it took a heck of a lot of time to research, list, pack, & ship. If I remember correctly those are not the highest priced brands. You will make a decent return though.

About 2 years ago I bought around a dozen HO Scale trains from a local Salvation Army thrift for around the same price as you paid (somewhere around $2-$3 each).

No locomotives (that’s definitely where the money is) but I end up selling each of them on eBay for around $10 each with free shipping. So you certainly should make some money on this but as someone else mentioned they do take time to research and then box and ship.

Let me put it to you this way. I can buy about 7-10 new model trains for the price you paid, so I think you did outstanding.

Update, I put them on Craiglist Sunday and I have a waiting listing for them. First buyer arrives tomorrow and if he takes them home then I've doubled my money. I also contacted a couple of Train web sites and they have people that want them also. Price too low? :tongue3: well at least I doubled my money. :icon_thumleft:

All SOLD except the two on ebay.

I think you are well pn your way. I would have dropped the duckets on this lot You did very well. I would sort cars and bulk them out and sell the engines separately. You can go buy a small transformer at your local hobby and test the engines. It is very easy and the hobby shop will show you how to do it. Being able to say they are working will quadruple your sell price. IMO
