Got desperate and picked up this sword. Only markings are a 31 and a letter that looks like a U. Does anybody have any idea on era? Thank you. I appreciate it. 20191109_133419.jpg 20191109_133424.jpg 20191109_133432.jpg 20191109_133444.jpg 20191109_133535.jpg

looks like a bayonet to me.

"while blushing", you are correct. It's a bayonet. Sure as heck wasn't a knife, so I called it the next largest weapon I thought possible...while continuing to blush.

Thanks.

Thank you very much. Yes it does. The only difference is that top piece of metal that is in the shape of a ring has an additional piece of metal on the top, where as the on ein the pic does not have that. Thank you very much. I sincerely appreciate it.

Thank you very much. I sincerely appreciate everyone's time and comments. I paid $5 at a community sale this morning. There were about four more "swords" at this sale. The gentleman saw me looking at them, and he pointed at this one and he said "Supposedly" that one was in the Civil War! To which I replied "supposedly", and we both laughed. In hindsight, I should have bought them all. Thanks to all once again. :-)
