Picked this up at a yard sale the other day for $1.00. I’ve determined that the first word is Moliens which is a commune in France. Leaving the last word as the artist “Daniel”. Any thought on who this might be? It was framed by a studio in Bridgeport Ct that no longer exists. It’s a good size piece of oil on canvas around 2’x3’ and is professionally framed. Art is not my area so any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. I can narrow the age of to between 1943 and 1963 with this probably somewhere in the middle of that range. Postal zones for cities (Bridgeport 2) started in 1943 as many of the Post Office employees that were familiar with their city headed off to war. Cities were divided into zones to make it easier to locate addresses. The 5 digit zip code was implemented in 1963. The phone number provides another clue. The 2 letter 5 number (2N-5L) system became standard in the 50's.

Could you show pictures of the full painting and a full shot of the back?

Ok, from what I can find, Mogens is a Danish form of Magnus. Danish surnames are derived from patronymic names, from a male ancestor. They are now fixed, so Mogens Daniel makes sense. *whew* :icon_scratch:

Thank you!! You are a genius and I appreciate your help!! I was way off on the first name! [emoji38]. By the looks of some of the auctions, I didn’t do to bad for $1.00 but I won’t be retiring soon either! Thank you again for your efforts! I can still post a full size photo of the piece including the back when I get home from work.

Here’s a full picture front and back. It’s 23”x19” for just the painting itself. ImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1597792689.696505.jpg ImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1597792698.995449.jpg
