Thats an elliptical. The concentric ones tend to be round. Usually when you have a measure X measure its an elliptical. I have been looking into other coils for my GTA, hows that one working for you?

Elliptical implies its shape not the type of windings.
A concentric coil design could be elliptical in shape.
A DD could also be but they don't have the same characteristics.
I want to know if its a DD or not.
thanks

I haven't used that detector much, I won it at a hunt years ago but now I have need to hunt in heavy mineralized ground, so if that is a DD coil I will try that detector. I normally use a DFX. but it has a 9.5" Concentric coil.

The Double D (DD) type coil searches almost the whole diameter at full depth and is also excellent at canceling out ground mineralization. The elliptical style coils can come in either the DD or the concentric style, however they are oval in shape instead of round. This allows the user to search closer against things such as trees and fences etc.

what you have there is a DD coil it used for penetrating heavily mineralized ground
those are good for prospecting or relic hunting :headbang:

I got this from Garrett today:

The GTA 1000 was manufacture from 1991 to 1995. The coil should be a
5x10" coil and it is a DD coil. So that coil will work real well in
higher mineralization soil. That 5x10" coil is a great coil to have, we
don't make that coil for that detector any longer. We now have a 7x10"
elliptical coil that took the 5x10" DD coil place.

If you have any other questions about this unit please let me know, I
will be glad to answer and questions you might have.
