Is there a secret to removing the Ace 250 coil cover?

It is a wicked pain in the ovaries to get this ace 250 coil cover off and on to clean. Is there some secret to this? I don't want to get so frustrated that I don't try anymore. It takes me 10-15 minutes of pushing, wedging, pulling and tugging just to get it to move even a little!

Yes. The secret is - Be strong and hang in there!

Bev, these coil covers can sometimes be a pain to pry off. Sometimes soaking it in warm water in a shallow pan without getting the coil itself wet. Inserting a kitchen knife along the edge and tapping downward while holding the shaft can sometimes loosen it after walking the knife around the edge. Do not force it because you could damage the coil. Many coat the coil with a Marine Epoxy for protection to abrasions and don't ever have to worry about black sand getting in the cover again.

another way is to heat up the cover with a blow dryer. it'll get warm enough to remove easier but won't be damaged by the heat. good luck

Okay you guys and gals, I hate covers. Use a hacksaw and have at it. Saw carefully thru and around in a few spots, don't get too close to the coil. After that have at it some more with pliers and pry off the beast, chunk by glorious chunk. I bet you don't order another. And heck Bev, it'll be a lot easier on your ovaries.

Marine epoxy- is that like chassis saver or aka: por 15? I have some of that left over from doing the frame on my big Jeep...That would be wonderful if it is- I could do that today!

The cover came with the 250 I bought from a guy in Massachusetts. The cover is great in theory but if it's so aggravating to remove I can see problems in the future with water and debris getting in and doing exactly what you were trying to prevent in the first place!

Well to be honest with you myself i don't use coil covers...................I have no love for them.........Sorry about that we're men thing.......

Use the hair drier trick to get the cover off and clean it good, then get some clear RTV/gasket maker at the local
auto parts store and use it seal the top edge of the coil cover to the top of the coil.

Then you no longer have sand/water/debris getting in between your coil cover and your coil.

Link to Clear Permatex p/n80050 , runs about $4 a tube and you might use maybe 1/6 of the tube.

Clear bath tub sealant at Walmart will work too and might be cheaper.

I have also found a teflon spatula helps as it is easier to get it in the edge and slide it around the coil like it is a can opener....

patience.. all my coil covers are a real pain in the rear to remove, i just work it little by little all the way around until it pops off. one good thing, ya don't gotta worry about the coil covers just falling off while in use
