    AT PRO NO VOLUME CONTROL?

Ok, I am thinking I am reading this right. There is no volume control on the AT PRO?
Garrett LAND headphones come with it that does have a volume knob on them, but they arent waterproof.
You can buy Garrett Waterproof headphones, but they DONT have a volume control if I am correct.

So, I wonder if you can use their included land headphones in the rain without damaging the unit?

If you drop the unit in the water with land headphones attatched will it damage the detector?

What if the volume is too loud with the Waterproof Headphones...? Cant use em?

Re: AT PRO NO VOLUME CONTROL?

There is no volume control on the AT Pro. The land headphones do have 2 volume controls. The land headphones are fine for detecting in the rain. I have not owned the underwater phones so can't tell you much about them other than (obviously) they are submersible. Maybe others that have the underwater phones can add to this or you can contact Garrett as they would know. Best wishes, George (MN)

I fold my hat down over my ears and that makes them quieter, but even with no hat they are not to loud for me. Some people use cotton balls to lessen the sound. I use my water headphones on land because they are more comfortable than the land phones.

You need the waterproof headphones if you want to snorkel and they are loud enough but if to loud you can always add cotton balls like Lookindown said. Once you install one kind of headphones you don't want to keep taking them off to install the other ones.

Re: AT PRO NO VOLUME CONTROL?

Ok, managed to find some info on this from customer support.

1)You don’t have to have the headphones attached in order for the detector to be waterproof. So you will not damaged the unit if headphones are not attached and the unit is submerged.

2)Using regular headphones in light rain won’t damage the unit at all. You can even have the housing underwater with regular headphones attached to the control housing and it won’t damage the housing. You just won’t be able to put the regular headphones under water since they aren’t waterproof.

    That's good to know.

**Note:The headphones are Garrett headphones as they are collar-screwed into the unit. I see they make an adapter as well.

It is good news that the unit can be submerged without the phone plugged in because sooner or later someone will do it. That is smart engineering. I am trying to figure out how they can do this in the saltwater, not concerning the waterproofness, but concerning short circuit issues within the audio pins. In saltwater the electrical resistance across those pins so close together is less than 0.2 ohms which compared to 4 or 8 ohms, the current spikes at least twenty to forty times as great.

Not that it will help completely, because if water can find its way in, it will... But, Garrett does provide a cap for the headphone jack. If you hunt without phones, you should put the cap on as tight as possible. It will at least help keep the dirt out.

In order to be waterproof without phones, I think that cap has to be on.
