The coin mode will eliminate pull tabs and some gold jewelry.

Sweep the area and then go back through it in jewelry mode, just in case any small gold items might be lurking.

I am paraniod of skipping Jewelry because the empty lot next to my house once had two large rock houses built in the late 1800's to early 1900's and I have found 2 hands full of wheat pennies in the corner of my yard. One burnt down about 5 years ago and they dozed the other over. I have found more foil and peaces of old chicken wire than I care to count lol. What is really neat (but of no value) is the several dog tags I have found in this yard. Lots of people like to name their pups bear around here or good ole bear was good at pulling the tags off. I found a 1979 Union Plaza Casino $1 token in the back yard. I cant wait to use this thing when I go arrowhead hunting because I have found a lot of old pre-statehood foundations and know of a really old trail or 2 around here. I was going to get another detector but my wife has been sick since December. Her platlete counts are falling so we are scheduled to meet with a Hemo Dr at the cancer center to make sure its not the dreaded "C" word. Lord I hope not because I am a dissabled vet with 3 kids at home (1, 4, and 12 years old). Not that it would hurt any less without having children, but the prospect of doing this alone is scary. Sorry sometimes a facless venting is needed to clear the air. Thankyou so kndly for the replies and any and all advice on the ole 250 is very much appreciated!!

Ammo,
As far Im concerned there is no such thing as a dumb question here, because this site is full of great people that like to help out another dtectorist ( I personally know this)....Now that said, I hope everything works out for your wife!OK now about the detector I personally use the 250 & if I were you I would run jewelery mode ...Yes you will dig some junk but you wont miss the gold!...Believe me when I say that

Ammo... sorry to hear about your wife. Hang in there! Also, I would try no discriminate at all. You will get much more junk... but much more knowledge of good sounds and bad sounds. Finding junk is also part of the learning process. TTC

It would probably be easier just to click on my name and read my past posts on the ACE. You are really going to like this machine AFTER YOU LEARN IT. I've used mine so much that I was sure that I'd have to use the warranty before the 2 years were up but it's still going strong. Good luck with your wife. Three young kids...alone...would scare me, too. Especially if there were any girls. It seems they'd be tougher to raise.
