Ok, I'm betting this has been discussed before, but I really want some input. I have an Ace 350 with the stock DD coil and I've been noticing it seems to get really flaky here in trashy spots. Today I was running in coin mode minus nickels on a house tear down site, and I was getting really jumpy signals and not a lot of repeatable signals. I turned the sens down and that seemed to help, but I was still not getting much. The last straw was my buddy digging a 1900 Barber dime in a part of the yard where I was getting mostly junk signals...... Nice for him and all, but it sucks knowing I missed it.

My question is this : I'm thinking about buying the 4.5 inch Sniper coil, I hear it's better for high trash areas but that there is a trade off in depth. So I'm wondering how much depth I'll lose, and how much I'll gain in target separation with the smaller coil? I've seen them running around 40 bucks used so I'm pretty much sold on buying one, just want to get some input first.

I have a shooter coil for my whites. Well worth the money, picks coins out of the trash easily. Just go slow.

I have no problem with mine you just got to go slow and cut your swing in half and I search really trashy areas I can isolate coins no problem next to trash thats with the 8.5 x 11 coil as far as the sniper coil it works really good at separating stuff and as far as depth goes bout 5 inches is as far as it goes for me good luck HH

2 notches off full is the stock setting and your going to false alot in a trashy location back it off a notch and see how the finds add up then....

I asked a similar question a few months ago and wound up going with the 5x8 DD coil because the DD coil has a little better depth and is more precise than the round concentric coil. The only advantage that I saw with the concentric Sniper coil is you can get closer to metal objects like poles and chain link fences. I didn't need that for my type of hunting.
Also when your in trashy areas with the DD coil when you get a perceived possible good signal mixed with a trashy one, try stepping to the side and do short quick sweeps at a 45* angle from the way you originally swept over the object. If you look at the below DD coil view you will see how this method works. That helps to pick out the junk from the treasure. Of course if there is junk directly over or right next to a good object you still won't know unless you dig it.

Good advice always work around the target use different angles and when in doubt just dig thats what I do and it works out pretty good

It all depends on position of the coin the depth its normal for it to jump a little

Thanks for the input everyone..... I'm going to go ahead and buy the sniper coil soon and give it a try. I figure I'll run a spot with the DD and then go back with the 4.5 and see how it goes. I'm one of those people who can read about something all day long, but it only really makes sense to me when I actually get my hands on it and start trying to figure it out. I'll post my opinions and results when I've had some hours on the smaller coil for comparison.

Its pretty nice hunting old baseball fields and football fields...it gets heavy after awhile but i can cover alot of ground and it seems to pick the coins out of the trash pretty well
