At first my At Pro was driving me crazy. I was having so much trouble determining between all the noise I kept getting in the pro mode. Well now after about 2 weeks things are coming together. Yesterday, hit my back yard and dug 7 holes, 6 were pennies 6 inch deep, today dug about 10 and all but two were pennies, one quarter and one usps safe deposit key, from 2-8inch. Beginning to love this machine. I don't pay too much attention to the numbers, just listening to the sound it produces. I had gone over all those areas at least 6 times already, shows what learning can do. I had used my brothers 250 and got hooked so I had to buy a detector for myself.

Yea it took me two weeks to get use to it. It likes to talk a lot. I ground balance it and when it goes nuts I just turn off and then back on.

Great advice here! The smaller 5x8 coil is the BOMB!

The AT Pro is on my short list for my FIRST purchase. Is it common to ground balance so frequently - or is this a normal thing?

Ground balance as often as you like. Ground minerals can change anywhere and that can affect the machine's ground balance which can affect performance. It's smart to check your ground balance often.
