Hey guys and girls,

Not certain if it's me or if this coil simply is not all it's cracked up to be.

10 hours with the new 5x8 DD and barely a good hit.

LOTS and LOTS of sci fi movie sound effects however. lol

I've run in Standard, all 3 modes and in Pro, also all three modes. Still nothing. However putting the stock coil back on and retracing my route, I get hits that end up being coins etc.

What am I doing wrong? Any advice would be appreciated.

Oh, I have watched the videos and read everything I could find on this topic and coil.

Thanks in advance and HH!:BangHead:

Is your coil plugged in securely?

I just got an ATO pro, and I am not good with it yet...5 hours on it..

CoinFetcher,

I love my Pro and you will also.
It's the new coil I just purchased. I think it's mocking me lol

Congrats on your new best friend :)

Yes, coil has been checked for a tight fit.

I haven't even plugged my stock coil in yet. I've found a lot of stuff with the 5x8 so not concerned. Planning on going back over my yard with the stock to see if it finds anything. One thing I was impressed with is the ability for the 5x8 to see through junk. I've found lots of coins with junk in the same hole. Found a dime that was under a screw. It was an iffy signal but I dug anyway. My old bounty hunter would have never hit that

I started with the BH tracker 4. Great little unit in my opinion.
Definitely a lot less to learn on the tracker than the AT.

It's windy as hell right now or I would be outside. We've got like 30mph winds at the moment.

Did you ground balance it after you put on the 5x8?

I started with the stock coil then switched to the 5x8. It does cut through junk very well for me. I like the thinner center hot spot better than the stock because you can really hear the edges of the target when swinging, wiggle'n, and pin pointing. I run in pro zero, 33 iron discrim, and nothing dis'd out. You could try resetting to factory defaults with your 5x8 hooked up. Coins for me ding real clear and crisp with the smaller coil HH

Sorry guys,

I should have been more specific with the steps taken.

I did a factory reset after installing the new coil. I've GB the heck out of the machine as well.

I think it's just me. Perhaps I am just simply not well enough acquainted with the new coil yet?

Perhaps bury a few coins and try both coils. It might help determining if there is a problem with the smaller coil. Although rare, it could happen. Personally for me, the smaller coil is my main one since i mainly hunt trashy parks

Love the 8x5, I just posted a video today on my YT of it at a park that I've hit pretty hard in the past with the 250 and a few times with the stock AT coil and I've found a good number of clad 6+ today.

I got a solid hit on a small toe ring with the small coil at 6", coins shouldn't be an issue, all things considered ie soil conditions. This ring was real thin

Just got back a bit ago from a short hunt near a baseball field.
Bleachers etc...

2 hours=17 cents! woohooo ha ha

1 nickel and 12 pennies.

Also, yesterday went to a local beach. 2 pennies and one nickel and 3 bottle caps for 4 hours!

At least you both were able to get out ans swing a little. That's all that matters. As for that smaller coil, it takes a few solid hours to figure out what its telling you. When you start learning that "new language" things just start to click. HH

Well I finally hooked up the stock coil and went back over my yard. Found about another dollar in change which I must have just missed as some of it was 3" and less depth. I did come away with some immediate differences.

-stock coil is much more sensitive to emi
-stock coil didn't produce the "phantom signals" my 5x8 did as discussed in my thread "at pro beeps but no vdi"
-did dig a penny at 10"ish which was really hard to hear so I'm guessing the 5x8 missed it
-5x8 much easier to pinpoint with but stock wasn't too bad with the wiggle method
-separation was much easier with 5x8 but Ill have to run another yard with the stock and then 5x8 to determine true effectiveness
-stock adds a good amount of weight and is not nearly as balanced as 5x8

My thought is that the stock coil is included with the machine due to the fact they probably wouldn't sell many if the 5x8 was stock given the similarity and benefit of balance. Ill definitely try to further find a reason to keep the stock coil on but the 5x8 is darn comfortable and seemed to provide good results in my brief test

The weight and the trashy areas I hunt are enough for me to use the 8x5. If I was doing a large are such as a field with little trash I'd swap the stock back on.

Totally agree. I bought an extra mid and lower shaft to make swapping coils easier as well.
