at gold is it waterprooff without any headphones plugged at all?

Use the waterproof cap to cover the 2 pin connector, don't know if you'll hear much without phones...

What I have heard is that the unit is waterproof even without the Cap still use the cap as reassurance though.

I realize that i'm just going in shallow water its only to put the detector down while I retrieve target I don't like the long handled scoopers I just dive for it I float very well, thanks!

Remember AT Gold is not saltwater rated, only for use in fresh water. I'd make sure the little cap was lightly greased and on in any case.

that's good point on being greased a little but me and salt water no thanks, fresh water only believe it or not I find more on fresh water beaches than I ever had on the ocean

I don't know if it is waterproof without the cap, but sand and dirt will not be good for it. They put the cap there for a reason. It takes about five seconds to screw it on. Why even bother asking about it.

about no head phones!

I did mine without the head phones. I used a little plumbers tape on the cap worked great. Good luck!

I got the blue water proof head phones and tried them out (on land) the other day. I like the fit,but they sure sound different that the stock one's that came with the ATP. Can't wait to get them in the water.
